Ibrahim Salifou Touré

Hi! I’m Ibrahim Salifou Touré, PhD student at “Laboratoire des Sciences de la Matière de l’Environnement et de l’énergie Solaire (LASMES)” led by Prof. Arsene Kobea, in working group « Modélisation Atmosphérique Régional (MAR) » at University Felix Houphouet-Boigny (Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire).

Following the undergraduate course in physics, I did a master's in environmental science with an internship at the geophysical station of Lamto. During this internship, I studied the impact of climatic extremes on the production of hydroelectric energy. it was an interesting experience for me that I intend to implement in the framework of the FURIFLOOD project.

My thesis study, under the supervision of Dr. Fidele Yoroba (UFHB-Côte d’Ivoire) and Prof. Andreas Fink (KIT-Germany), is linked to work packages 1, 2, and 3 of the FURIFLOOD project. My research work  characterizes the dynamics of rainfall, its spatial and temporal distribution and contribution to the urban flood risk in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa).

The effects of climate change combined with population growth make African countries more vulnerable. In Côte d'Ivoire, over the past three decades, populations, particularly in urban areas, have faced recurrent floods, associated with significant material damage, population displacements, and loss of human life. The FURIFLOOD project is a real opportunity for us to to characterize the evolution of extreme rainfall and its associated dynamics  to improve climate services and early warning systems.
