Jules Affewe
Hi! My name is Jules Affewe, a PhD student at the Exact and Applied Sciences Doctoral School (EDSEA), Abomey-Calavi, Benin, in Atmospheric Physics Laboratory led by Prof. Etienne Houngninou and Applied Hydrology Laboratory led by Prof. Emmanuel Lawin.
I am a member of the hydrological team working on the FURIFLOOD project in Abomey-Calavi, with Prof. Julien Adounkpe as my supervisor. My work in the FURIFLOOD project is linked to work packages 1, 2, and 3, with a particular focus on the risks and hazards associated with flooding in the Ouémé watershed at the Bonou outlet. Hydrological and Hydrodynamic modeling of the watershed to predict the basin's reaction to precipitation will be investigated as part of my PhD research.
I first had my Master’s degree in Physics at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FAST). And then I’m interested in water and continued my studies in hydrology at National Institute of Water (INE), in the Applied Hydrology Laboratory where I obtained a Master’s degree. Before the FURIFLOOD Project, I worked in drinking water supply, hydro-agricultural development and plumbing projects in local structures.
Climate change and population growth increase the risks related to climate. Since the flood of 2010 which had disastrous consequences on the populations and the ecosystem in Benin, many efforts have been made by the scientific community as well as the authorities, both in term of warning systems or in term of the adaptation measures, to face this natural phenomenon which happens almost every year now. The FURIFLOOD project came right and will really help decision makers.
